Franco-Japanese Exercise Oguri-Verny

On September 17, 2021 off the coast of New Caledonia, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF) and the Armed Forces in New Caledonia (FANC) organized the bilateral Exercise Oguri-Verny. The Japanese destroyer JS SHIRANUI notably trained with the Gardian maritime aircraft of FANC 2 during air defense exercises.

This joint training had several objectives: to improve tactical interoperability, strengthen cooperation between the two partner armed forces and improve mutual understanding of the issues in the Indo-Pacific region, where France and Japan cooperate to promote a free, safe and secure Indo-Pacific area. open.

As a continuation of this training, a stopover of the Japanese building JS SHIRANUI is scheduled for September 18 in Nouméa. No shore visit is planned for the building staff, in accordance with the health and containment rules set by the New Caledonian authorities.
