The Norwegian corvette KNM “Storm” has been following three Russian vessels from the Baltic Fleet sailing west of Norway in recent days.

The Russian voyage took place in international waters, and is so far considered to have taken place in a safe manner.

– The Russian navy has now started exercise Okean. The exercise results in increased activity from both the Northern Fleet and the Baltic Fleet in our immediate areas, in addition to long-haul aircraft. We were prepared for this, and we have planned to follow Russian movements together with our allies, says Vice-Admiral Rune Andersen, head of the Norwegian Armed Forces’ operational headquarters (FOH).

The Norwegian Armed Forces always follow the situation in our immediate areas closely. We have a good overview of activity through our own operations and sensors, in addition to cooperation with allies. The situational picture is secured through presence and patrols on land, in the air, at sea, under water and via, among other things, space-based sensors.
