Frigate Lübeck Returns From the Aegean Sea

On Saturday, September 11th, 2021 at 10 am, the frigate “Lübeck” returned to her homeport after having traveled more than 22,900 nautical miles in the Mediterranean. At the beginning of May, the “Lübeck” untied the lines in Wilhelmshaven to join the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2) in the Aegean.

“The crew had four demanding months behind them. Not only the hardships of the mission, but also the current corona pandemic demanded a lot from us all. Nonetheless, the frigate ‘Lübeck’ was able to fully fulfill its task of monitoring the sea area and made a significant contribution to the International cooperation. My biggest thanks go to the crew, who presented an excellent picture with the highest level of professionalism and motivation and did a remarkable job, “said the commander, frigate captain Kai Röckel (43) proudly.

In addition to the main assignment, numerous international exercises were performed to strengthen the work in the multinational association. The cooperation with the Greek and Turkish partners, as well as the Italian flagship of SNMG 2, the ITS “Fasan”, was outstanding.

After more than 17 weeks in action, the crew is looking forward to welcoming their families and friends back home.
