The Indonesian Navy, in this case, KRI Siliman-848 soldiers who are under the operational control (BKO) of Guskamla Koarmada I managed to secure three suspected perpetrators of piracy that often occurs in the Malacca Strait. Thursday (08/08).

The chronology of the incident began with a report on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 by the MT. Maran Antares Ship to the Scout Coordinator of PT. Asinusa Putra Sekawan, then forwarded by the Guskamla Koarmada I regarding the piracy experiment carried out by 6 people. It is estimated that they had boarded the boat while in the waters of Karimun Island, at night.

They carried sharp weapons and did not hesitate to injure the crew. They take some personal belongings such as watches, cameras, etc. Then the pirate escaped out of the boat using a motorboat.

The MT. Maran Antares ship itself sailed from the UAE port to Nipah Island, has a length of 333 meters and a width of 60 meters, bearing the Greek flag carrying a total of 29 crew members.

The Commander of KRI Siliman-848, Marine Major (P) Robi Dwi Wijatmiko, said that on Thursday, August 8, 2024, he received an order from the Guskamla Koarmada I to immediately go to the location of the 5 NM robbery to the west of Nipah Island.

After arriving at the location in the afternoon, it was seen through the binoculars of MT. TMN Plenitude adjacent to MT. Maran Antares was driving away motorboats that tried to approach the ship by spraying water from the ship’s sprinkle hose with the aim of preventing the motorboat from approaching.

Seeing the arrival of KRI Siliman-848, the motorboat tried to escape. However, KRI Siliman-848 gave a warning to the motorboat to stop and carry out an inspection.

From the results of the examination, it was found that three suspected pirates with the initials LS (46 years), TS (26 years), and PA (35 years) all came from Tg. Balai Karimun. The evidence that was successfully secured was an unnamed motorboat GT 6, jirigen, cigarettes, liquor, and coconuts.

According to the information received, they often use the mode of exchanging goods or selling goods while reviewing the condition of the ship. It is not uncommon for them to immediately ask forcibly. Things like this can make the image of the waters in the Strait of Malacca unsafe. Furthermore, all evidence and suspected pirates were taken to the TNI Naval Base (Lanal) Tg. Balai Karimun.

On various occasions, the Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized that the TNI Navy will always improve operational readiness, both equipment and personnel to prevent criminal practices from and through the sea, to ensure the safety of users of the Nusantara Sea.
