On Monday, September 6, 2021 at 10 a.m., the fuel tanker “Spessart” of the Rhön class will leave the naval port of Kiel to join the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2) in the Aegean. Once in the operational area, the civilian fleet tanker will support the “Schleswig-Holstein” frigate, which had already set out for the Mediterranean in mid-August. The main task of the “Spessart” will be the refueling as well as the supply of fresh water and operating materials for the other ships of the SNMG 2. After leaving the port, the crew will go on an exercise in the North Sea beforehand and then continue their journey to the Aegean Sea in mid-September.
“We are all looking forward to the upcoming mission and the various tasks that we are allowed to perform in the NATO alliance. I am proud and grateful that my crew put so much effort into the preparation and am now looking forward to the days at sea “said Captain Rolf-Heinrich von Bebern (55) about the upcoming mission in the Aegean.
The “Spessart” is expected back shortly before Christmas.
