ARA Piedrabuena Attends Ceremony for Namesake in Santa Cruz

August 25, 2021 – The town of Santa Cruz bears the name of the illustrious sailor 88 years ago and held yesterday morning a commemorative act of the new anniversary of the city and a reminder of the 188 years since the birth of Miguel Luis Piedrabuena.

Participants in the ceremony were the Mayor of the city, Dr. Federico Bodlovic; the Commander of the XI Mechanized Brigade, Colonel Major José Luis Arrechea; and the Chief of the Santa Cruz Naval Zone, Captain Carlos Olmos; among other national, provincial and municipal authorities.

The ceremony began with a Te Deum by Chaplain Fabián Gilli, a celebration of thanksgiving to God, and later the ceremony took place in front of the local municipality building. On behalf of the Argentine Navy, Captain Olmos gave as an anniversary gift, a painting with the image of the ocean patrol ship ARA “Piedrabuena” recently incorporated into the Argentine Navy.
