JMSDF Details MALABAR 2021 Plans

MALABAR 2021
JMSDF is to conducts a multilateral exercise “MALABAR 2021” with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), the Indian Navy (IN), and the United States Navy (USN) to further strengthen defense cooperation and contribute to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific as described below.
1. Objectives
(1) To improve JMSDF’s tactical capabilities
(2) To strengthen the relationship with RAN, IN, and USN
2. Period
August 23 – September 10
3. Exercise Area
Guam and in the vicinity of Guam
4. Participating units
(1) JMSDF
Special Boarding Unit
(2) USN
USS BARRY, USNS YUKON, USNS BIG HORN, P-8A, C-17, and Special Operations Command Pacific
(3) IN
INS SHIVALIK, INS KADMATT, P-8I, and Marine Commando
(4) RAN
HMAS WARRAMUNGA
5. Type of exercises
Various tactical exercise, mainly special forces operation
6. Notes
(1) Preventive measures against COVID-19 were implemented during the exercise.
(2) Execution of further phases of MALABAR 2021 likely to be in late of August and middle of October is being coordinated among the navies concerned. Details will be officially announced following the determination.
