On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the joining and naming ceremony of the Special Operations General Support Ship (PGY-EE) PERSEAS was held at the Salamina Naval Station, in the presence of A.E. of the President of the Republic, Mr. Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The ship is a donation to the PN of the President of the “Aikaterini Laskaridis” Foundation, shipowner and Rear Admiral e.t. Mr. Panagioti Laskaridis. The contractor of the PGY-EE PERSEAS was the cadet NCO (T/PM) 3rd Class Konstantina Bogdanaki.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikos Dendias, members of the Parliament, the Chief of the General Defense Forces General Dimitrios Houpis, the Chief of the GEN Vice-Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras PN, the Chief of the General Staff Vice-Captain (I) Demosthenes Grigoriadis, representatives of the Chief of the GES and the Security Forces, the Mayor of Salamina, Mr. George Panagopoulos, the Metropolitan of Megara and Salamina, etc. Konstantinos, members of the Local Government, Honorary Chiefs of GEETHA, GEN and AS, members of the Supreme Naval Council, military and civilian personnel of the PN, members of the wider Navy and Maritime community, as well as other guests.
The new Unit will significantly upgrade the operational capability of the Navy.
