June 25, 2021 (Google Translation) – From June 19 to 21, 2021, the Public Service Patroller (PSP) Cormoran visited Zeebrugge, Belgium. During this period, the Cherbourg crew conducted several exchanges with the Belgian special forces. The French crew thus seized the opportunity to carry out two opportunity exercises ( Passe exercise – PASSEX).
First, the Belgian Special Operations Boat Unit 1 (SOBU) had the opportunity to conduct an exercise aboard the PSP Cormoran . The SOBU was thus able to test its equipment by conducting boarding training for a Belgian special forces rapid interception vessel ( fast raiding interception special forces craft – FRISC). Finally, the Belgian crew discussed with the French crew the various French know-how in the field of building visits. In fact, the crew of the Cormorant regularly trains in this mode of action, in particular to carry out their fishing police mission in the English Channel.
In a second step, the Cormorant conducted a medical evacuation exercise (EVASAN) of a fictitious injured person with the Caiman helicopter of the Belgian navy. This exercise is part of the maintenance in operational conditions of our units, but also in the improvement of Franco-Belgian interoperability. France and Belgium, partners and neighbors, have a common work zone, in which Search and Rescue (SAR) operations can be carried out jointly, in particular in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais.
