Dutch population considers strong armed forces more important than ever

April 9, 2020 (Google Translation) – Research has shown that 67% of the Dutch population is proud of the Dutch military. 67% also think that the threat has increased in the world and that a strong armed forces is now more important than ever. 48% believe that too little money goes to Defense. Figures almost equal to the results of the previous measurement.

This is evident from Motivaction’s six-monthly Support Monitor published today. The investigation was commissioned by Defense.

The Dutch population will give Defense a 7.1 in the second half of 2019. Defense also received that report figure in the first half of 2019.

Since 2017, the market research agency has been researching the support base for Defense among the Dutch population (aged 16 to 75).

Why support research?

Defense protects what is dear to the Netherlands. This makes the armed forces not a luxury, but a necessity. Support and trust from society are essential to properly fulfill this arduous and responsible task. Because of the importance of support for the tasks of Defense and in particular foreign deployment, Defense wants to maintain and increase support in society. Monitoring is important in this respect.

With the Support Monitor, Defense continuously keeps its finger on the pulse. Between 60 and 70 respondents are approached every week. For example, Motivaction arrives at a representative number of respondents of about 750 every quarter.
