HNLMS Holland Deploys to the Caribbean

May 13, 2021 (Google Translation) – The patrol ship Holland left for the Caribbean today from Den Helder. As a result, Defense will have a station ship in the area again after a few months.

HNLMS Holland is expected to arrive on May 26. The crew focuses, among other things, on operations against terrorism and piracy and on combating drugs. This is done in collaboration with chain partners such as the Caribbean Coast Guard and the American Commander Task Group 4.4.

HNLMS Holland is an oceangoing patrol vessel (OPV) and has an NH90 maritime combat helicopter on board.

At the end of December last year, the previous station ship Groningen back to the Netherlands due to technical problems. In the preceding period, the ship’s crew intercepted thousands of kilos of drugs, among other things.

Defense has 4 Holland-class patrol ships. These are flexibly deployable ships for the surveillance of coastal waters. The OPVs entered service between 2012-2013.
