KRI Bima Suci Visited Darwin October 31st

On 31 October 2019 at 10:00 Darwin time, the Indonesian Naval Academy Cadets of KRI Bima Suci-945 (BSC) had berthed on the Port Hill Wharf, Darwin Australia. This time, the KRI BSC-945 voyage along with Naval Academy Cadets was named the 2019 Ambassador of the Diplomacy Task Force with a diplomatic mission’s theme of “Maritime Fulcrum Brotherhood”, aimed at showing that Indonesia is the world’s maritime axis and at the same time introducing the Indonesian cultural character of the Navy to several Negara Sahabat (friends of Indonesia),particularly the destination country of the 2019 Kartika Jala Krida Training Unit. The number of delegates on board who joined in this voyage was 201 people consisting of 89 people with crews; 19 Training Units from Naval Academy and 103 cadets (92 male cadets and 11 female cadets). Also on board, 5 personnel from the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) embarked at Benoa Harbor, Bali on 24 October 2019.

The arrival of the KRI Bima Suci (KRI BSC-945) in Darwin, Australia is not only carrying out a diplomacy mission but also in the context of KJK (Kartika Jala Krida) Naval Academy training. KJK is a star naval exercise which is the last cruise training for Cadets of Naval Academy level III which focuses on the application of astronomy in navigation, as a basic science of maritime science. Before arriving in Darwin Australia, KRI BSC-945, which began its voyage since August 5, visited eight countries such as China, South Korea, Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines. While berthing in Darwin, KRI BSC-945 conducted several activities such as courtesy calls to the Commander of HMAS Coonawara, Commander of the Northern Command and to Lord Mayor of Darwin to convey the message of peace and friendship between the two countries, as well as to strengthen and enhance cooperation between the two navies .

KRI BSC-945 is one of the high mast training vessels which is quite large in the world and other countries rarely have this kind of ship. KRI BSC-945 was made at the Freire Shipyard Shipyard, in Vigo, Spain in 2016 and was launched in September 2017. KRI BSC-945 has dimensions of 111.20 meters in length; 13.65 meters in width; a draft of 5.95 meters, and a maximum height of masts 49 meters from the surface of the upper deck, 3 main masts of sails with 26 sails or the overall width of the sail is 3352 square meters. Additionally, this training ship has more sophisticated naval navigation instruments, purification equipment to transform sea water into fresh water, digital communication and data tools. The first mission was a crossing operation by sailing from Spain to Indonesia on September 18, 2017 and arriving in Indonesia on November 24, 2017.

After visiting Darwin KRI BSC-945 departed back home on November 3, 2019 at 10 local time.
