The Chinese navy hospital ship Ark Peace will arrive tomorrow in Port Moresby to provide free medical services from July 12 to 16 to the local community.
According to information gathered from the Chinese Embassy, those who are interested in getting free medical service onboard the ship, can contact PNGDF Taurama Military Hospital and Gerehu General Hospital or visit the Ben Moide Club to get their names pre-registered. Pre-registration and the medical services are free of charge.
The visiting Chinese navy hospital ship will work closely with the PNG Defence Force, related PNG government agencies and the local hospitals in Port Moresby to provide free medical services.
This is the second time since 2014 for the Ark Peace to visit PNG.
During the visit, the Ark Peace will offer free medical services to the local people and Chinese nationals, including exchange activities, such as medical training, ship tour and sports games.
Under the command of mission commanders Rear Admiral Guan Bailin and Rear Admiral Qin Wei, Ark Peace set sail from Zhoushan, China on June 28 to carry out Mission Harmony 2018, and PNG is the first stop of the mission.
This mission is the concrete practice of carrying forward international humanitarianism and disseminating the concept of peace, development, cooperation and win-win as well, which will be conducive to enhancing the friendly relations between China and PNG and the two peoples.
The ship is a large maritime medical platform designed and built in China.
She was commissioned in Dec 2008 with pennant number 866. The ship boasts a length of 178 metres, a beam of 24 metres and an air draught of 35.5 metres.
She is in possession of eight levels and a full displacement of 14,300 tons. The 4000 square meter hospital is separated into five main areas respectively for casualty transfer, triage, outpatient, inpatient and evacuation.
Over the past 10 years since she was commissioned, Ark Peace has sailed altogether 200,000 nautical miles for more than 15,000 hours, visited 37 countries and provided medical services for more than 180,000 people, therefore, she has opened a window for the world to learn about China and been commended as a vivid name card of China in the new era.
