The defense of sovereignty and naval operations did not stop during the last year-end season, so during the first week of 2018, the seizure of more than one ton of cocaine hydrochloride was carried out. municipality of Tumaco and in the Balboa Sea, thanks to the existing Binational Cooperation Agreement between the government of Colombia and Panama.
In the urban area of the municipality of Tumaco, the troops assigned to the Pacific Naval Force, with the support of the National Police, conducted a raid on a house, located in the back a patio with entrance from the sea, where there was a volqueta type vehicle, in which 20 sacks with alkaloids were found.
The vehicle was transferred to the facilities of the Marine Infantry Brigade No. 4, where the authorities carried out the Pre-Approved Identification Test, PIPH, giving positive for cocaine hydrochloride weighing 376 kilograms. In the place there were no catches.
According to the investigation of the judicial authority, the alkaloid belonged to an organized armed group that trespasses under the instructions of Walter Patricio Arizala Vernaza, alias “Guacho”.
Also, within the framework of the Binational Cooperation agreement; Between the government of Colombia and Panama, for the fight against the different transnational crimes and thanks to intelligence information provided by the National Navy, the National Aeronaval Service of Panama managed to intercept a boat when sailing to the southeast of the Island of Coiba, in the province of Veraguas.
According to the report of the Panamanian authorities, the boat without name or registration, was manned by two Colombians, who transported 651 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride hidden in the structure of the vessel. The subjects were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities and will be prosecuted in Panama for the crime of international drug trafficking.
In the first week of the year, the Pacific Naval Force has managed to seize 1,027 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. It should be remembered that during the year 2017, 113 tons of alkaloid were seized, preventing more than 11 billion pesos from entering the drug trafficking structures.
The National Navy will continue to carry out combined operations with the countries that maintain cooperation agreements, as well as coordinated, joint and interagency operations, with the different Colombian institutions, to strengthen the fight against the different transnational crimes.
