China has begun sea trials of the Liaowang-1 control and measurement complex ship.

The Vessel displaces 30,000 tons and is China’s newest ocean-based space-tracking ship. It comes equipped with a variety of radars and electronic surveillance equipment to monitor satellites, rockets, and missile tests.

The Liaowang-1 is considered a key element of the PRC’s maritime surveillance system for space and airspace objects. The vessel will act as a mobile command center to fill the blind spots land-based radars cannot reach.

This allows for enhanced anti-satellite and anti-missile operations beyond the shores of China and helps the PLAN synchronize naval operations with what is happening in space.
