October 9, 2018 – USS Normandy (CG 60) arrived in Zeebrugge, Belgium, for a scheduled port visit, October 5th. Belgian at the helm of NATO SNMCMG 1

Belgium has been commanding the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 since yesterday. The southern neighbor took over from Zeland in Zeebrugge. For half a year the Netherlands provides the staff ship for the squadron, which mainly operates on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Frigate captain Peter Ramboer has been in charge of the mine control fleet for almost a year. In the coming months he will do that from the Dutch torpedo ship Zr. Ms. Mercuur.
