Two’s company for LHDs

The Navy’s two largest ships have departed Fleet Base East in Garden Island, Sydney today bound for exercises off Australia’s east coast and northern waters. Landing Helicopter Docks HMA Ships Canberra and Adelaide departed simultaneously, but will soon go their separate ways to commence a series of amphibious warfare exercises and regional engagement in the South West Pacific respectively. South Pacific deployment beckons for HMAS Adelaide

HMAS Adelaide is preparing to embark on its longest deployment this year – a three month journey across the South Pacific to Hawaii and back called Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2018 (IPE18). Exercise LUMBAS is an annual bi-lateral exercise between the Australia and the Philippines, and is being undertaken concurrently to the Royal Australian Navy’s visit to the region.
