First arrivals prepare for successful APEC

November 9, 2018 – Australian Defence Force personnel have begun to arrive in Port Moresby as part of Australian Government support to the Government of Papua New Guinea to deliver the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. A small contingent of personnel flew in on a Royal Australian Air Force C-17 Globemaster, and the Royal Australian Navy’s amphibious ship, HMAS Adelaide, has taken up position in full view of APEC House, along with patrol boats HMAS Glenelg and HMAS Larrakia. Australian Navy Arrives in Port Moresby for APEC 2018

November 2, 2018 – The Royal Australian Navy Landing Helicopter Dock, HMAS Adelaide, and Armidale Class Patrol Boats, HMA Ships Larrakia and Glenelg, will start arriving in Port Moresby from this weekend to support Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) security agencies to deliver a safe and secure APEC. Maritime sacrifice remembered in historic ceremony

One of the Royal Australian Navy’s most heroic wartime confrontations has been remembered during a solemn ceremony in Indonesia’s Sunda Strait. On March 1st, 1942, the cruiser HMAS Perth (I), in company with USS Houston, confronted a large Japanese Naval taskforce in the entrance to the Sunda Strait. Outgunned and outnumbered, Perth courageously engaged the enemy until finally, having run out of ammunition, she was sunk.
