RIMPAC Mine Warfare Operations Underway in SOCAL

Commander Task Force (CTF) 177, led by U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Dave Welch, commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) and the Navy’s Global Mine Warfare Commander, kicked off the Southern California (SOCAL) portion of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) with mine warfare training operations which run from June 27 to Aug. 2. US-Japan Complete 3JA Exercise

USS Chief (MCM 14), Mine Countermeasures Squadron (MCMRON) 7 staff, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 5, Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 14 (HM-14) Detachment 2A, and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) units successfully completed exercise 3JA Nov. 28. US and ROK Forces Complete MIWEX

Maritime forces from the U.S. and Republic of Korea successfully completed the Multinational Mine Warfare Exercise (MN MIWEX), Oct. 22. USS Chief (MCM 14), staff from Mine Countermeasures Squadron (MCMRON) 7, and Mine Countermeasures Helicopter Squadron (HM) 14 Detachment 2A participated in MIWEX with Republic of Korea (ROK) counterparts and members of United Nations Command Sending States to increase mine countermeasure interoperability and tactical proficiency. April 3, 2017 – U.S. mine countermeasures, surface and expeditionary assets and counterparts from the Republic of Korea navy wrapped up the mine countermeasures portion of the bilateral exercise Foal Eagle March 29.
