USNS Mercy arrives in 7th Fleet for Pacific Partnership

Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) arrived in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of Pacific Partnership 2018 (PP18), March 10.  PP18 is scheduled to have more than 800 U.S. military personnel stationed worldwide, working side-by-side with host nation counterparts to be better prepared for potential humanitarian aid and disaster response situations.  The Mercy and an expeditionary fast transport ship will serve as the mission platforms led by Commander, Destroyer Squadron 31 (DESRON 31). Coast Guard Cutter Munro (WMSL-755) patrolled near Channel Islands in an interagency operation designed to enforce maritime laws that protect living marine resources and improve safety at sea. Coast Guard seeks tips, information on recent laser attacks on helicopters

The Coast Guard is asking the public for tips or information regarding recent laser attacks aimed against rescue helicopter crews.  The latest attack occurred Tuesday evening near the Arcata-Eureka airport as an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay was conducting a practice instrument approach.  The helicopter was southeast of the airport when a green laser coming from a wooded area about three miles east of McKinleyville, was shined directly at the aircraft.
