From 12 to 24 September 2022, the Italian Submarine Excape and Rescue Excercise 2022 (Smerex22) took place in the waters of Ginosa Marina (TA ). The exercise, which was attended by the latest generation submarine Romeo Romei and the Auxiliary Rescue Ship of the Marina Anteo, aims to verify the procedures for identifying and rescuing the crew from a damaged submarine placed on the bottom of the sea.

Nave Anteo, on which a team of divers embarks, specializes in supporting underwater operations on deep water and is equipped with a complete suite of rescue systems including the SRV 300 mini-submarine, the Mc-Cann Rescue Bell and ROV underwater vehicles. .

These vehicles were joined by the Submarine Parachute Assistant Group (SPAG), an air-launched emergency unit of the Underwater Command and Incursors of the Navy, an excellence capable of intervening in a few hours throughout the Mediterranean.

The signal from the Submarine Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (SEPIRB), launched by Romei, allowed the Submarine Command and the International Submarine Escape and Rescue Liaison Office of NATO (ISMERLO) to identify and identify the submarine in distress and activation of the Coordinator Rescue Forces and the Dissub Liaison Team of the Submarine Command, which thus started the rescue operations from the Anteo ship.
