Baltic Fleet Helicopters Practice Deck Landings

February 7, 2019 (Google Translation) – In the Baltic Sea, the crews of the Ka-27 naval aviation of the Baltic Fleet completed landing on the decks of the project 20380 corvettes and the Yaroslav the Wise patrol ship.

During the exercise with the Baltic Fleet ships, pilots of ship-based helicopters made more than 60 landings on ships in drift and on the move, some of which were in the dark.

Night flights occupy a special place in the helicopter crew training program. Each pilot must have the skills to control the helicopter in conditions of limited visibility, when it is necessary to perform a flight task, to carry out safe take-off and landing on the ship’s deck, being guided exclusively by instruments.

As part of the exercises, the helicopter pilots worked out tactical methods of searching and tracking submarines of the conditional enemy in the daytime and at night, and also carried out interaction with the ships of the Baltic Fleet when performing anti-submarine missions.
