September 20, 2018 (Google Translation) – The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has presided today the opening ceremony of the temporary exhibition “Asia and the Naval Museum”, held at the Madrid headquarters of this museum.
In his opinion, this exhibition will be “a milestone” more in the Hispanic-Asian relations. In fact, the exhibition aims to value a unique collection both for the rarity of its pieces and for providing the visitor with a better knowledge of the historical link between the Navy and Spain and Asia.
Upon his arrival at the Naval Museum, the minister has been received by the second Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral Manuel Garat Caramé, and has greeted the various civil and military authorities invited to the event, which include the presence of Ambassadors of Portugal, China, Vietnam and Thailand.
After the inauguration, a tour of different rooms was made and during which the curator of the exhibition, Ramón Vega Piniella, explained the details of the most relevant pieces to the head of the Department.
“ASIA AND THE NAVAL MUSEUM”
The exhibition, framed in the VIII Edition of the Naval Week in Madrid, to be held between September 20 and 30, will remain on display until January 20, 2019. With “Asia and the Naval Museum”, the extensive Asian funds gathered in the Naval Museum of Madrid since its opening 175 years ago. In total, there are more than 200 pieces and documents, many of them exhibited for the first time, from a dozen countries.
