From June 11 to 15, 2018, 6 naval aeronautical surface and air force combat ships train together off Toulon as part of the GABIAN collective training.
The objective of this deployment is to train the crews of surface ships belonging to the Naval Action Force * and naval aircraft, and thus to allow sailors to prepare jointly for their future operational missions. It is also a means of maintaining and developing the individual and collective know-how of the sailors of each of these combat units.
The program of this week of intense training: exercises to fight against asymmetric threats, artillery fire and exercises recreating major disasters on a building (Ex: waterway, fire, man overboard etc.
: to advance sailors by reproducing conditions closer to reality.
Among the buildings present in this second annual edition of GABIAN, we find the air defense frigate Chevalier Paul , pilot training vessel (Operational Tactical Commander), the multi-mission frigate (FREMM) Auvergne , the deep sea patrol EV Jacoubet , the frigates like La Fayette Courbet and La Fayette and the Capricorn minesweeper . The surface forces are supplemented by aircraft from the Hyères aeronautical base . About 1000 sailors train together.
4 times a year, GABIAN is the opportunity to confront each other, to work together, to get to know each other better for the benefit of collective training. GABIAN seeks the profitability of the sea days devoted to the basic operational preparation. It is an intense training of organic and intermediate level.
