Nave Alpino, delivered to the Navy on 30 September 2016, is the fifth FREMM unit and the fourth in the “anti-submarine” version. It is a ship set up with state-of-the-art and latest generation technological systems.

The overseas campaign, the confrontation and the joint activities with friendly and allied Marine, constitute a precious opportunity for training, useful to maintain high levels of cooperation for the strengthening of relations with the trans-regional allies.

Nave Alpino will guarantee a qualified and technologically relevant presence in several countries with which Italy has important political-diplomatic, economic and military cooperation relations. The activities that will be carried out are framed, more generally, within the institutional tasks that the Navy, without interruption, ensures our country and the community in all areas of strategic interest, ensuring a concrete naval presence aimed at sea-control, the security of commercial communication lines (Sea Line of Communication – SLOC), the surveillance of national maritime activities, deterrence and contrast to illegal activities on the high seas, international cooperation and training.

This Campaign is relevant both for the possibility of projecting the image of the Navy, the Armed Forces and the country system in areas of unusual gravitation, and for the support provided to the international competitiveness of important national realities. This is also part of the important activity aimed at showing and making known the Unit’s operational capabilities in favor of delegations composed of members of the United States Congress and US Navy officers as part of the information process for the definition, from part of the US Navy, a new class of frigates (US acquisition program called Future Frigate Program FFG (X) designed to fill the capacitive gap between the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and the Arleigh Burke class units.

This initiative of maritime projection and navaldiplomacy is part of the wider project that aims to “create a system”, integrating the operational capabilities of the crew with modern Italian manufacturing systems embarked on an Alpine ship, built by FINCANTIERI, sole sponsor and campaign partner.

The overseas presence is also an opportunity to meet the numerous Italian communities residing abroad and also includes the organization of cultural events and the promotion of the image of Italy and its excellence.
