NRP Bérrio and Zaire Deploying to Africa January 3rd

On 3 January, the ceremony for the start of the patrol vessel “Zaire” and the refueling vessel “Bérrio” will be held at the Lisbon Naval Base, in Alfeite, for a maritime training mission of the Sao Tome and Principe Coast Guard. The ceremony will be chaired by the Minister of National Defense, Professor Doctor Azeredo Lopes.

The two ships will sail to the Gulf of Guinea with the mission of promoting the training project of the São Tomé and Príncipe Coast Guard and technical-military cooperation with the friendly countries of the region, particularly by promoting pioneering initiatives for the development of maritime defense and security capabilities in the Gulf of Guinea. The duration of the mission is expected to be 1 year for the “Zaire” patrol and 3 months for the “Bérrio” refueling vessel.
