The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, has paid a visit to the tall patrol vessel “Infanta Cristina” during the stopover of the ship in the port of Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The president, who is in this city of Côte d’Ivoire on the occasion of the attendance to the V European Union-African Union Summit, has been able to know up close during his visit, the work that the patrolman is doing during his deployment.
On the deck of the ship, the President of Government addressed the staff there, thanking him for his work and remembering the importance of maritime safety in the protection of the interests of Spaniards, among whom the fight against piracy and illegal fishing in West African waters.
During these four months of deployment, the ship “Infanta Cristina”, to the Command of Corvette Captain Juan Carlos Prada Pardal, has carried out cooperation activities with the riparian countries of West Africa for the development of their maritime capabilities and with the objective of promoting mutual knowledge and trust, contributing to maritime security and regional stability.
During this period the “Infanta Cristina” has also made stopovers in the ports of Praia and Mindelo (Cape Verde), Nouakchot (Mauritania), Dakar (Senegal), Sekondi (Ghana), Douala (Cameroon), Santo Tomé (Sao Tome and Prince), Luanda (Angola) and Port Gentil (Gabon), visiting a total of nine countries.
