HNLMS Evertsen is back home in Den Helder. The Air Defense and Command Force has been part of the NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) since May.
The NATO navy is predominantly in the Baltic Sea due to the worsening security situation at the eastern border of the NATO Convention Area. It is one of the reassuring measures towards the Baltic States and Poland.
With the Evertsen as an anti-air warface commander the air defense of the connection was in Dutch hands. For the frigate, the task force also provided an excellent opportunity to train internationally. This took part in the great NATO exercises Baltops, Dynamic Mongoose and Northern Coast.
The activities were not limited to the Baltic Sea. For example, Brilliant Mariner performed on the Mediterranean. Evertsen has been active in Operation Sea Guardian for some time, with the task of mapping out the area and the existing shipping and aviation industry. The suspect ships also spurred.
In Algiers did Zr. Ms. Evertsen finally joined the Mediterranean Dialogue, a program of 7 non-NATO countries including Algeria. The aim was to contribute to stability and security in the region and the prevention of misunderstandings between NATO and non-NATO countries.
The SNMG1 varies from 6 to 10 ships and forms the maritime component of NATO Response Force, the rapid reaction force of NATO.
