USS James E. Williams Visits Reykjavik After Dynamic Mongoose

USS James E. Williams (DDG 95) arrived in Reykjavik, Iceland July 5, for a scheduled port visit to enhance U.S.-Iceland relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.

James E. Williams is in Reykjavik after participating in exercise Dynamic Mongoose 17, which is an annual NATO-led anti-submarine warfare exercise designed to provide training opportunities at the unit to task group level and sharpen the anti-submarine/anti-surface warfare skills of participating units.

Sailors will have an opportunity to explore the rich culture of the hosting nation.

“I’m looking forward to touring the historic attractions and experiencing the Icelandic culture,” said Lt. Kyle Hanton, the ship’s training officer.

While in Reykjavik, Sailors will also participate in a friendly USA vs Iceland handball competition against a local Icelandic handball club.

James E. Williams, home-ported in Norfolk, is on a routine deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.
