December 10, 2016 – Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, today welcomed Techstars’ launch of its first Defence and Security Accelerator in Adelaide.
Minister Pyne said Techstars is one of the leading technology accelerators in the world.
“Techstars Adelaide is designed to support companies to develop and commercialize state-of-the-art technologies connected to the defence and security sectors.
This is a welcome and encouraging step for new collaboration across defense industry, which will be critical to meeting the challenges of the future,” Minister Pyne said.
Minister Pyne said that these types of initiatives support the Turnbull Government’s ongoing commitment to the promotion and development of Defence innovation in Australia. On 5 December 2016, Minister Pyne launched the Defence Innovation Hub.
“The Government is investing $640 million over the next decade to mature and further develop technologies in the engineering and development stages.
“Initiatives such as these are very welcome and will support the defense market to mature advanced technologies to a level that are ready for Defence consideration, including through the Innovation Hub,” he said.
The Innovation Hub will provide equal opportunity for all participants from small to medium enterprises to prime defense contractors to put forward their ideas.
